I picked up a basket case Stevens Favorite model 1915 from the estate of an older gentleman.
He did a real number on some of the major parts (with a grinder), the extractor and the barrel are also missing.
My first instinct was to throw it in the scrap bin, but later on I thought why not try and bring this thing back to life.
I have a barrel blank that I could use for this project, I need to make up a new stock, (light maple perhaps with oil finish), get a new extractor, new screws and repair/replace all the major parts.
The frame has a nice brown original patina and I would like to leave that one alone, all the other parts will be blued in a high gloss finish.
It will probably take me some time to find the parts and finish this little gun.

Neat! Looking forward to seeing it put back together.

Can't wait to see it. There's something about a "saved" firearm. _________________ Tinpig |

I finished this little gun, lots of new parts, some of the parts were purchased but most of the replacement parts were made up new.
This little gun is now in better shape then when it left the factory.
I found an old Savage center fire bolt action stock from the 50's, the fore-end tip was painted-on simulated rosewood, but the wood itself was old growth American black walnut, beautiful stuff.
I cut out the center section and the pistol grip, and had enough wood left to made a stock for this gun.
In this picture the slots for the tang are being machined.
And here it is fitted with the old stock for comparison, I made the new stock a little longer.

That is so neat.
I'm a stumblebum with fine wood or metal work, and admire the dickens out of guys that can do it |

Thanks wwb
It's nice to have a few skills, and I would be the first to admit that you never go hungry once you have mastered a marketable skill, but overall, you are far better off in one of the well paying professions (except mechanical engineering of course)

Wow! Great work and thanks for the report. That is a nice old gun. Have you taken her to the range yet?

Beautiful job! I can do a lot with wood, but I'm a hacker when it comes to metal. _________________ Tinpig |

You are a miracle worker Trig. Making something out of almost nothing. Now, can you get me that executive position as a captain of industry I have so greatly deserved??? kwg |
